2008 Champions Event
Help celebrate this year's climb and meet Francesco.
Growing up, Francesco Lucarelli always had a special relationship with his mother. Whether she was sitting in the stands at one of his hockey games, or watching him graduate from the University of Michigan, he could always count on her being there. In 2001, that all changed. After a courageous two and a half year battle with breast cancer, his mother passed away.
"It changed everything for me. My whole outlook on life: what's important, what's trivial, who really matters, what should you prioritize. I was very close to my mom my whole life. So, it really shook up a lot of things for me...I may have never verbalized some of these things before, but if there's one thing that I really learned from it, it was the importance of making every day count."
Last year, Francesco climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro to honor his mother's memory and raise funds to fight cancer.
In 2008, Francesco is climbing Mt. Aconcagua, another of the "Seven Summits" of the world and the highest montain in the Americas. His efforts will help support MRI Guided Breast Biopsy at Van Elslander Cancer Center.
