Providence Hospital is once again ranked as one the top 100 hospitals in the United States for heart care, according to an independent national study. Providence is the only hospital in southeast Michigan to receive this recognition six years in a row and the only center in Oakland County to be honored in 2006.

Providence Hospital is a progressive and expanding hospital and medical center directed by the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul.  Founded in Detroit in 1869 as a maternity hospital and infant home, the hospital relocated to its present full-service suburban complex in 1965 with 419 beds.

The hospital is staffed with over 4,000 associates including over 900 specialized physicians.  Over 19,000 patients are admitted each year, and over 20,000 inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures are performed annually. The Emergency Departments in Southfield and Novi treat over 86,000 patients a year, while the outpatient facilities receive over 900,000 visits annually. Research laboratory facilities are currently being expanded.

Providence Hospital adapts its services to meet the needs of the community. The hospital was the first in the county to establish an Intensive Care Unit. As a major trauma center for southern Oakland County, the Emergency Department is unsurpassed in quality. Providence was the first hospital in the area to develop a fully equipped mobile emergency lift support unit. Its Family Practice Center provides essential services to the ever growing population and sponsors a public health lecture series. Twenty-two ambulatory care satellite facilities have been opened in an effort to reach out and provide health care services to rural and suburban areas in western Oakland County.

All residency program at Providence Hospital are fully accredited by the Accreditation council for Graduate Medical Education.  Medical Education sponsors 18 total programs and 144 residents and fellows.  Academic standards are high, and this is reflected in the success of our graduates in passing their certification board examinations. While the emphasis in our residency programs is on training skilled clinical practitioners, we also require all residents and fellows to participate in the scholarly aspects of the program including completion of at least one research project.

Providence is a hospital which serves the growing needs of a diverse community.  Working at Providence provides an enriching practical and educational experience.
